I want to explore my relationship with gambling.

Explore your motivations for gambling, and the relationship you have with it using our resources.

Thinking about your primary reasons for gambling.

What is motivating the relationship with gambling and what are the rewards you are looking for?  What are your beliefs about the outcomes of your gambling? Are they realistic?

Using our RED-E tool to understand your relationship with gambling

Betknowmore UK has used insight and expertise from those with gambling lived experience to develop our RED-E resource. This can be used to help you or someone else enhance their understanding of their gambling relationship.

Role of gambling

Think about your primary reasons for gambling:

  • What are your motivations?
  • What rewards you are looking for?
  • What are your beliefs about the outcome of gambling?
  • Are they realistic?
  • Are you trying to escape everyday life?
  • Do you think gambling plays a healthy role in your routine?
  • Are there any alternatives?

Emotions

Consider the emotions that gambling can trigger, excitement, joy, anger, confusion, there are many.

Gambling may be the activity you turn to change an emotional state.

You may feel difficult emotions following a gambling session, particularly one when you lose money, or things didn’t go your way.

Decision-making

Decisions taken around gambling, and sometimes other decisions in parts of life can be influenced by gambling itself.

Decisions you often take whilst ‘under the influence’ of gambling can seem rational and understandable at the time.

Exploration and self-awareness of RED-E

There are different ways to do this. Some people like to draw up a list or use a tool we call a ‘Timeline’.
