Armed Forces Gambling Support Network

Betknowmore are proud to be a member of the armed forces Gambling Support Network. Our mission is to reduce the risk and incidence of gambling harms amongst the armed forces community by creating an enduring support service for armed forces personnel, veterans and their colleagues, friends and family.

The network was set up specifically to reduce the number of individuals within the armed forces community impacted by gambling harms and increase the number accessing varying levels of support by raising awareness, providing early interventions and education. The programme has adopted a public health approach to tackle gambling harms and us in line with the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms.

There is a two-tiered approach which applies the every contact counts methodology to equip those within the community with the skills, attitudes, knowledge and confidence to better identify gambling harms and provide early interventions to prevent the escalation of harm.

Battling the Odds

Betknowmore are proud to support the armed forces community with ‘Battling the Odds’. This programme provides free gambling harms training for professionals supporting the armed forces community, and free and confidential specialist treatment and support for any currently serving personnel or veterans who may be experiencing gambling harms. As part of this programme, we also offer free treatment and 1 to 1 practical support for those affected by somebody else’s gambling and a wide range of aftercare programmes to support recovery.

The ‘Battling the Odds’ educational offer includes specific content examining why the armed forces are at risk of gambling harms, alongside examining how gambling can impact the brain, the risk factors associated with this issue, how to identify harms in serving personal and veterans, and the help and specialist support available.
